Learn more about Equifax Identity Checking

When registering for your first epost Digital Postal Address, you are required to prove rightful access to the address through a verification process. This process helps to ensure your privacy and security when using the epost service. You are asked to provide identifying information such as your name, address, and date of birth. Canada Post uses , Equifax to validate the information against the Equifax credit database. The online validation process is NOT a credit check but rather a validation of your name, address and birth date. If an initial match cannot be found, you are prompted to OPTIONALLY enter your Social Insurance Number (SIN) as a further identity check, and middle name if not already provided.

If a match is found, a Welcome Confirmation letter is mailed to your physical Mailbox address. No action is required when the letter is received. The letters are sent as a further security measure and notification to ensure only those with rightful access to an address can register the associated Digital Postal Address.

If you do not wish to use the online method you can choose to complete the process in person. If you choose in-person verification, you will be presented with a ‘Verify at a Retail Outlet’ screen and prompted to print the bar-coded Verification form or record the Confirmation number. You will be required to visit your local Canada Post Retail outlet with the required identification to complete the in-person verification.
